Propolis is a complex product, of plant origin, produced by bees, from the exudates of trees. Used since ancient times by Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. Antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral, fungicidal, healing, anti-inflammatory, anesthetic, immunomodulatory and antitumor properties are attributed to it.
Much of its biological and therapeutic activity is due to the presence of flavonoids in its composition, which varies depending on the geographical origin. This paper reviews various studies, mostly carried out in countries Ibero-American and focused on showing the pharmacological properties of propolis and its applications as a therapeutic agent in the treatment of pathologies. The applications documented in this work were made mostly in humans through clinical trials and experimental studies.
